Registration and Admission for the 2013-2014 School Year

The re-registration period is from February 4 to 8, 2013 and the registration period for NEW students is from February 11 to March 29, 2013. The 2013-2014 Enrolment Criteria will be applied for registration of all students to our school board.

    1. Registration for new students to Sir Wilfrid Laurier School Board

      Parents can call their zoned school to make an appointment for registration as of February 11th. It is important that you have all required documents with you at the time of registration.

      Required documents
      • The child's original long version birth certificate bearing parents' names
      • A proof of parents' Canadian citizenship
      • Two Québec proof of residency (ex. Tax receipt, any utility bill, etc.)
      • Child's last report card if attended a school the previous year
      • Certificate of eligibility to English education (Application form available at school)

      Note: Some schools may require other documents
    2. Re-registration for current students of our school board

      Students will receive the 2013-2014 re-registration form on February 4, 2013. Parents are required to review and return the completed form to school by February 8. Any modification to the re-registration form must be accompanied by proof.

    3. Age related admission criteria

      Elementary school

      • The student must be at least 5 years of age prior to October 1st to be admitted to kindergarten and 6 years of age prior to October 1st to be admitted to Cycle One (Grade 1)

      • OR
      • The student may be admitted prior to the age stipulated above if certain conditions are met and approval is granted by the school board.

      Early Admission to elementary school

      • Parents /Guardians wishing to apply for a derogation for a child who does not meet the age criteria should contact their zoned school for the necessary information.
      • Once the requirements to qualify for consideration have been satisfied, completed derogation documents should be returned to the School Organization Department on or before April 26, 2013. Derogation requests will only be reviewed if the eligibility to receive an English instruction has been confirmed and the application is deemed to be complete.

      High School
      • Student must be under18 years of age prior to July 1st;
      • Student more than 18 years of age can contact the school's guidance counselor for pathways available to them.

      Please Remember

      • Only students who are eligible for English instruction can attend a Sir Wilfrid Laurier school.
      • Students may not attend any Sir Wilfrid Laurier school until they have been confirmed eligible or obtained provisional acceptance for English instruction.
      • Students with an Eligibility Certificate for a temporary stay must renewed prior to expiration.
    4. Eligibility (Bill 101) criteria

      Your children could be eligible for English education! The Sir Wilfrid Laurier School Board can facilitate that process and help you to determine if your children are eligible to attend an English school.

      Did you know that a child is eligible if:
      • The mother or father is a Canadian citizen who has received the major part of his/her primary school instruction in English in Canada;
      • The grandfather or grandmother is a Canadian citizen who has received the major part of his/her primary school instruction in English in Canada;
      • The mother or father is a Canadian citizen and their child has received or is receiving primary or secondary instruction in English in Canada and that such education is a major part of his/her education; the siblings of such a child are also eligible for English instruction;
      • A child has severe learning disabilities and instruction in English can facilitate the learning process;
    5. Interboard agreements

      Students who reside outside the Sir Wilfrid Laurier School Board territory
      • It is the responsibility of the parents/guardians to request an interboard agreement from the school board which has jurisdiction over their child. This authorization is confirmed when the School Board in question forwards a completed interboard agreement to our School Board.
      • These agreements are valid for one school year and must be renewed annually.
