Philosophy / Mission
Laurier Senior High School is the new name for Laval Catholic High School. We serve the entire island of Laval and teach Cycle 2 of the High School curriculum. We have a proud tradition of academic excellence as Laval Catholic High School which will continue under our new name of Laurier Senior High School. Our building opened in 1969 and has been home to students from many backgrounds. There are14 different languages spoken in our student population..
Our Governing Board meets approximately 8 times per year. It consists of 8 parents, 8 teachers, 1 support staff, 1 professional staff, 2 students and 2 community representatives. The approved minutes of the meetings can be found on our Web site. We have had parent volunteers help us with many of our events.
We offer enriched English, French, Math and Science programs in addition to our core programs. We offer Drama, Leadership, Intensive Sports, Art, Chemistry and Physics options. For students experiencing academic difficulties an on-the-job training program (IRS) linked to core academic subjects is provided. We have modified our subject allocation with a view to implementing the curriculum reform.
We offer the CISCO Essentials I a course which can lead to technical certification to work in electronic stores.
We have 4 large gyms, a soccer field and a track. We have 2 computer labs in addition to the computers in the library. We have 5 science labs. We have a large cafeteria that serves breakfast and lunch.
Our students take public transportation, which enables many to stay after school and participate in activities.
We enjoy the fulltime services of a guidance counsellor and librarian. We have a part-time nurse, psychologist, social worker, spiritual and community animator, and special education technicians. We have an administrative assistant as well as 3 clerks and a school secretary.
Events and Activities
We have many events and activities such as noon-hour sports programs, a Choir, a Social Committee, a very active Student Council, the annual Blue & Gold Revue, the Fashion Show, and dances throughout the year. We participate in the Greater Montreal Athletic Association (GMAA), soccer, basketball and rugby.
We participate in Sport Étudiant Laval with a basketball team. We have Computer, Bridge, and Library Clubs. We hold an annual Dinner for the Less Fortunate of Laval in December and a Dinner for the Elderly in March. In June we organize a Walk-a-Thon to raise money for victims of violence. We have Grad Ball committee and a Yearbook Committee, to name some of our activities.
We promote excellence through our Honour Rolls, our Web site, and our Statements of Participation in Sports, Social Cultural and Academic pursuits.
