Philosophy / Mission

Our educational project is called our strategic plan and reads as follows:

School motto is "Dare to Care".

We will focus our energies on three venues:

  • Partnership to create an environment that promotes personal accomplishment at every level.
  • Give students the opportunity to become functionally bilingual.
  • Computer literacy.

"Partnership..." is the umbrella statement that includes the other two. Under the umbrella, we concentrated on definite actions to bring about specific measurable objectives.

General Information

The original Lake of Two Mountains High School was located on 14th avenue and the first class graduated in 1954. Our new location is 2105 Guy, and the building was constructed in 1981. We are a school of approximately 600 students, serving a wide geographic territory including Two Mountains, St.Eustache, Pointe-Calumet, Sainte-Marthe-sur-le-Lac, St-Joseph, Oka. We are truly one of the last community schools and we may be proud of our tradition.

Parent Participation

Our school Governing Board meets every third Wednesday of the month. All members as outlined in Bill 180 are represented on our board. Our Parent Participation Organization continues to be a model for all high schools. Last year fund raising totalled an amount of $14,000. This money was used to offset the cost of field trips, capital expenditures and student recognition programs.

Programs

Required Secondary I Program

  • English, French, Maths, Geography, Drama, Art, Integrated Sciences, Computer Applications, Physical Education, Moral Education.
  • Catholic Religious and Moral Education. Religious and Pastoral Animation provided to all students.
  • Fran├žais, langue maternelle available if sufficient numbers of students qualify to take the French first language program.
  • Individual Paths for Learning Program:
  • Students who are identified as IPL (less than one year behind) are not segregated into seperate classes but included in the same team of "core" teachers as in the regular program. By using resources in this way, class sizes remain manageable and any student experiencing difficulty can obtain the same individualized attention required to correct the problem.

  • Special Education Program:
  • For students who are two or more years behind in their studies.

  • ACE is a transition program from school to work for students experiencing difficulties in the regular school.

Services

  • Full Library service
  • Computer, Music and Art Labs
  • Guidance Counsellor
  • Compulsory Computer course in Secondary I

Events and Activities

We have a very active sports program:

  • Intramurals during lunch time, league participation with Montreal teams, tournament days with other schools in the board. The major sports include: soccer, basketball, handball, floor hockey, volleyball, gymnastics, wrestling, track and field, cross-country skiing and broomball.

Fundraising activities throughout the year:

  • Team trip over several days in May
  • Pizza parties at the end of each term to reward achievement, progress and efforts.

Other Information

We have an excellent Students' Council which organizes dances, Carnival, filters student's opinions and input, and contributes a great deal to school life.
