Mountainview High School

Philosophy / Mission

Mountainview High School offers programs specifically designed for "kids in care". A student's learning is seen as a continuum and our goal is to assist him/her towards reintegration to a community school.

General Information

Mountainview students are in the residential care of Batshaw Youth and Family Services. We have two campuses, in Prévost and Laval. The school population is transient. Students may be with us a month or two or a year or two.

Parent Participation

Mountainview School schedules two parent-teacher interview evenings during the year. Parents are encouraged to call the school at any time to talk to the teachers or to visit the school while on campus. We assist parents in finding school placements for their son/daughter when they leave Mountainview.

Programs

Individualized educational programs are designed to meet the academic, behavioural and social needs of students. In addition to the core subjects of English, Maths, French and Social Studies, students take Physical Education, Art, Home Economics, Wood and Auto classes. A work study program is currently being introduced where students are working on the tree farm on the Prévost campus.

Services

Batshaw Youth and Family Services provides valuable support services to our school program. Nurses, social workers and childcare workers are all involved with the school. A school psychologist completes the team. Our computer lab and library are in constant use.

Events and Activities

Tournaments, such as soccer and basketball, are scheduled monthly. Field trips to pick apples, visit a museum or attend a play are co-ordinated with the Batshaw Unit according to the season. A ski or tubing day is an annual occurrence.

Each year we schedule a Terry Fox Run and special luncheon events at Christmas and during Black History Month in February.

Other Information

Teams of special education teachers work closely with specific groups of students. Teachers are assigned to each of the Batshaw Units to ensure good communication between the school and unit teams.
