Scales of competency levels - Elementary School
The scales of competency levels constitute the official reference points that form the basis of the student competency reports that teachers must prepare starting in the 2008-2009 school year. Part I of each document is intended to provide additional information on the nature of these instruments and how they are meant to be used. The scales for each subject are then presented in Part I

Evaluation
Checklists
As a start to providing models
of tools that teachers might use in the
evaluation process, we have taken the evaluation
criteria from the Quebec Education Program
and created some checklists that teachers
could use throughout the term to create
a picture of where the student is in terms
of his/her acquisition of the competencies
in English Language Arts, French and Maths. |

English
Language Arts and Math Essential Knowledges
On this page you will find the Essential
Knowledges for English Language Arts and Mathematics.
The Essential Knowledges listed under each
competency are the processes, strategies, skills
and understandings that are fundamental to
the development of the subject competencies.
The Quebec Education Program lists these knowledges
for the 3 cycles altogether while we have listed
them separately by cycle. Teachers may find
the separate listings handy. |

Science Competencies and Essential Knowledges

Authentic
Assessment
 |
Authentic
Assessment Overview
Authentic assessment aims to evaluate students'
abilities in 'real-world' contexts. In other
words, students learn how to apply their skills
to authentic tasks and projects. |
 |
The
Case for Authentic Assessment
Grant Wiggins, a researcher and consultant on school reform issues, is
a widely-known advocate of authentic assessment in education. |
 |
Rubrics
for Web Lessons
Authentic assessment is geared toward assessment methods which correspond
as closely as possible to real world experience. The rubric is one authentic
assessment tool which is designed to simulate real life activity where
students are engaged in solving real-life problems. |

Continuums and Standards

Reading and Writing Continuums
The second book in Bonnie Hills Corner Pieces of Assessment Series,
this guide builds on the first book, Classroom Based Assessment by
linking assessment to developmental benchmarks in the continuums. These
continuums are based on current thinking about literacy acquisition,
while reflecting a child-centered, constructivist, developmental philosophy
of teaching and learning . . . yet they are practical and easy to use!
