English Language Arts Essential Knowledges

On this page you will find the English Language Arts Essential Knowledges for the 4 ELA Competencies in each cycle. The Essential Knowledges listed under each competency are the processes, strategies, skills and understandings that are fundamental to the development of literacy. The Quebec Education Program lists these knowledges for the 3 cycles altogether while I have listed them separately by cycle. Teachers may find the separate listings handy.

Unlike some of the other subject areas, the Essential Knowledges for English Language Arts are very numerous. As a result, the listing of knowledges for each Competency is anywhere from 2 to 4 pages in length.

In addition to the Essential Knowledges for each Competency, I have also included the Evaluation Criteria for that Competency as well as the End Of Cycle Outcomes.
