Aesop was born as a slave around 620 B.C. Two masters owned Aesop in succession. His masters, Xanthus and Jambon, lived in Samos. His second master set Aesop free because he was witty and intelligent. Aesop raised himself to a position of renown. He traveled to Sardis, and Lydia. Aesop started writing his fables in Greece.
Aesop was given money to distribute to the citizens of Delphi, but instead, he sent it to his master. The citizens of Delphi became very angry so they executed Aesop.
Aesop is still honored today with a statue in Athens because of his fables.
