The Task

Your task is to learn how to prepare balanced menus.

  1. Students will name the four food groups.
  2. List ten (10) foods that belong to each group
  3. Plan a menu for one week, including breakfast, lunch and supper. Your calories must not exceed 2,400 calories per day.
  4. To learn the language of nutrition, define the following:

    a) Amino Acid

    b) Carbohydrates

    c) Calorie

    d) Cholesterol

    e) Energy

    f) Minerals

    g) Nutrient

    h) Protein

    i) Vitamins

    j) Water


  5. Use pictures and words from the daily newspaper to prepare a collage of foods from the four food groups.
  6. To complete the chart indicating the nutrients that each of the four (4) food groups contain. Under each group, put a checkmark to indicate the key nutrients.
