Heat Reflectors

Radiators are commonly used to heat the rooms.  The heat can be provided by hot water circulating in the radiators.  In some schools - most notably the smaller ones - electric baseboards are used instead of the hot water radiators.

The hot water radiators are great but transmiting heat all around them, which means that some of that heat is directed into the wall and outside the building if the insulation is inadequate (Figure 1).

To reduce that direct energy loss, reflective panels are stuck on the wall, behind the radiators.  They work as a mirror for the heat by reflecting it back toward the center of the room (Figure 2).
