WHY WOULD WE WANT TO VISIT THE ARUNDEL NATURE CENTRE?

• to have fun
• to enjoy a sense of space and natural beauty
• to experience a feeling of well being through varied outdoor activities and/or environmental activities
• to bring out the best in ourselves by exercising and developing strengths not normally used
• to build a feeling of fellowship in a class or group
• (in teaching situations): to teach and learn about the natural world in the most natural of settings and to be able to integrate all areas of the curriculum easily in an exciting and stimulating environment
• to use as a base to explore the Arundel / Mont Tremblant area (golfing, skiing, biking, climbing, boating, fishing, organic gardens and farms…)
• to have a family reunion or get-together
• to house a conference
• to take advantage of or to offer workshops or training programs

WHAT DOES THE SITE OFFER?

• the opportunity to plan and participate in an amazing adventure
• exhilarating outdoor activities using our trails and playing fields, our forest and our proximity to the Rouge River: hikes, snow shoeing, cross country skiing, canoeing, orienteering, survival camping, yoga…
• the opportunity for hands-on education through being involved in stimulating programs centered in our natural and plantation forests and our Science Centre

WHAT PLANNING WOULD BE NEEDED?

For student groups:

• making a budget involving usage of the Centre, transportation and food costs and animation costs, if desired
• making a reservation
• hiring a bus
• distributing and collecting permission forms and health forms
• planning the personnel you will want to bring
• deciding if you will plan and do the meals yourself of whether you will hire a/our caterer
• planning schedules involving travel time and the general plan of the day(s): activities such as curriculum choices, recreation, rest time, meals, bed time
• planning the activities and deciding what to do oneself and whether to hire animators from the site for some activities; choosing a theme around which to plan integrated activities is a good idea
• making a list of materials needed for activities
• giving a What to Bring List (that we provide) to the students of what to bring
• grouping the students for different chores and activities

What would a typical day look like? (for student groups)

• time to settle in after busses arrive
• an introductory hike of 1 ½ - 2 hours on one of our many trails
• lunch and clean-up
• a follow-up activity/workshop or round of activities
• Initiative Tasks (outdoor cooperative games)
• setting up the sleeping areas and having a rest time
• recreation on our playing fields or open spaces
• supper
• after supper activities if you plan to spend the night
• bedtime
