We believe that all students have the right to learn. Students are encouraged to choose behaviour that contributes to a positive school atmosphere.
The development of a sense of self-discipline in each of our students is an important aspect of our discipline policy.
As educators we recognize the primary role of parents as the first and best teachers of their children. We also recognize the partnership that needs to exist between home and school if students are to benefit fully from their education. In order for any policy to be effective, it is necessary that the school have the parents’ support.
Members of the Pinewood Elementary School community have the following Rights and Responsibilities:

One student in each class shall be selected for the “Student of the Term” award for academic achievements. These students shall be announced at the Award Assembly held every term. At the end of the year, one student per class shall be selected for the “Student of the Year” award.

DISCIPLINARY ACTIONS…
While our goal is for all of us to practice self-discipline and show respect for others and for property, occasionally we may forget and may cause harm to ourselves and to others. It is therefore important that we all understand that there will be consequences for unacceptable behaviour.
The school staff and/or administration may exercise a range of options with anyone contravening these rules, board policy or the law, such as;
§ Verbal reminders of our beliefs and values
§ Written reminders of our beliefs and values

¼ Teacher/student
¼ Daycare/lunch monitor/student
¼ Principal/student
¼ Adult/adult
§ Parent support to learn and practice behaviours
§ Special work assignment to learn and practice behaviours
§ Removal of privileges

Consistent misbehavior or serious offenses:
Every student starts off the year with 5 merit points for the whole year. Points may be removed by the administration depending on the offense. Any point(s) removal may lead to the following;
§ Reflection time in the Reflection room
§ Special work assignment to learn and practice behaviours
§ Removal from school – student must return to school with parent(s)
§ Involvement of other services
§ 0 points = removal from school & special behaviour intervention plan established with the collaboration of the parents, staff and student.
* The administration reserves the right to exercise any of the above options prior to any loss of points.
Visitors to the School
The safety of everyone in the school and the efficiency of school require careful control of visitors. Individuals on school property not having anything to do with the functioning of the school will be asked to leave. All visitors to the school, including parents, must use the main entrance and report to the administration immediately upon entering the building, and receive an “authorization pass” to circulate in the building if applicable.
