BEHAVIOUR PLAN

 

VISION

* Adhering to the philosophy of learning over punishment
* Promoting a redesigned school crest
* A new letterhead highlighting the school crest
* The school cheer

* MBWA (Management By Walking Around) – Principal’s philosophy

INCENTIVES

* Celebrating successes by means of school-wide messages on the intercom
* Posting praise certificates throughout the school
* Monthly Star-of-the-Month assemblies are held where ‘stars’ are given a certificate. A different theme is highlighted every month. Different students are celebrated weekly in every class. There is a Star-of-the-Month Book at the reception area to celebrate the ‘Stars’ as well as a bulletin board in the front lobby
* End-of-term assemblies to celebrate academic achievement
* Posting the school’s Code of Conduct strategically throughout the school to foster positive choices
* Supporting class reward systems
* Designing a Resource/Remedial teacher schedule to support students’ needs
* School-wide activities (e.g. Fun days, Winter Snow Activity day; June Olympics)
* Behaviour Technician as an impartial advocate for students
* Lunchtime activities organized for students
* MELS Homework Grant – three-pronged service: to facilitate student homework; to help students develop IT skills while attending the computer lab; to support students with organizational and study skill difficulties
* MELS Wellness Grant – a twelve-week Hip Hop activity for Cycle 3 students
* MELS Culture in the School grant: A workshop designed to discover the art of making and manipulating puppets
* Teachers’ ECA lunch hour activities: Drama Clubs, JES singers, hockey games, Dance and Movement)
* Inviting student teachers from McGill University for various stages
* Monthly Fun Days to add variety to school life
* Cross-level, multi-age activities such as Reading buddies
* Upgrading the school yard with new basketball nets, and retracing the lines for ball games
* Multiple upgrades throughout the school by the school board’s Material Resources department have contributed to school pride
* Monthly news bulletins sent to JES’ families to inform and encourage a sense of belonging to our learning community
* Bi-annual, school-wide outings to reward students who make positive choices when traveling on school buses
* Designing and maintaining ‘tracers’ to support students with challenging behaviours
* Principal’s birthday gift to students – pencil and bookmark
* Ad-hoc team meetings to discuss strategies to enhance student behaviours/academic performance
* Empowering lunch and bus monitors as authority figures meriting respect
* Lunch Rooms to facilitate supervisors’ supervision, and encourage students to socialize with their cycle peers
* Revise 2009-2010 agenda inserts to reflect JES’s Behaviour Plan

Students who contravene JES’s Code of Conduct will be given a discipline ticket. Tickets are colour-coded for each semester and cumulative across the semesters.
Tickets need to be signed by a parent/guardian.
Following 3 tickets, a consequence is given by the principal.
