On October 7 & 8, 2010 two of our Laval Liberty family members arrived at Laval Liberty. Sergeant Ford and Master Corporal Petten representing 3PPCLI came to award a deserving graduate, Jeremy Gaulin, the ‘Sgt. Christos Karigiannis & 3PPCLI Memorial Award and $1000 Bursary’ for three years of active citizenship and academic excellence at our graduation ceremony.

Sgt. Ford and Master Corporal also spent much of their time with our Student Leaders helping them define and refine their leadership skills.

Through interactive seminars, memorizing, public speaking, team building and communication activities, students learned how to work together and how to provide effective leadership to their groups.

Our Triple A concentration soccer and hockey programs participated in team building exercises and united activities on their PED Day.

Over the course of two days our partners with 3PPCLI provided the framework for us to continue to provide a solid foundation for our young people as they reach out to our school community effectively.

46 students paid tribute to our fallen soldiers on November 11th, 2010 by attending theNational  Remembrance Day ceremony in Ottawa and by spending time with 3PPCLI members and their families at the 3PPCLI Assembly Hall.

Mr. Don Dalziel, a member of the PPCLI commented the following: "Thanks very much for your kind note. I'm glad that your students enjoyed their Remembrance Day experience. I have heard from many of our members, and they were unanimous in praising the kids for their interest and their comportment. They are a fine group, and represented Laval Liberty so very well. We would welcome another visit next year."

Meanwhile, Mr. Lior Doron, a teacher at our school, has this to say about the partnership: The partnership between Laval Liberty High School and the 3PPCLI (3rd Battalion Princess Patricia's Light Infantry) is of great value. I can only describe what I have seen first hand as the positive influence it has on the students. The various projects and initiatives that have gone on since 2008 such as: care packages, student and soldier meetings, memorials and tributes, the vision to build a school in Afghanistan, leadership training workshops, bursary given to the graduating student who demonstrates a commitment to both academic excellence and active continuous citizenship, inauguration of the LLHS outdoor hockey rink dedicated to Sgt. Karigiannis and 3PPCLI. The fact that the Battalion also sends soldiers to talk to the students at the school only closes the gap between the theoretical concepts of leadership, courage and determination with the practical skills that are learned during their interaction."
