To teach is to understand. To learn is Wisdom. To learn together is understanding wisdom".

REPORT CARDS Student report cards will be issued four (4) times a year at the end of each term. (i.e. early November, mid January, end of March, and early July FOR PICK UP AT GENERAL OFFICE) These report cards will be given directly to the students. Parents should inquire at the school if they are not received.
STUDY POLICY (HOMEWORK) Assigned homework (usually written) and unassigned Home Study (long range planning and systematic review) are an essential part of a student's course work, and must be accepted by students and parents as course requirements. Experience has shown that the average Secondary I or II student should spend "roughly" 1 hour on homework and study for each day spent at school, while a Secondary III, IV & V student should spend up to 2 hours (variable).
Homework and Home Study are a student's ultimate responsibility and the keys to success and superior grades. This agenda book should be used as an organizer and reminder for homework and study. Parents can help by monitoring its use.
Students who do not complete assignments on time can expect to receive a TIP letter (Teachers Involving Parents) which parents must sign to acknowledge the situation. If a student receives four (4) of these letters, he will meet with administration to discuss the problem. Eventually sanctions will be imposed - sanctions which might include after-school homework sessions or the student being placed on a tracer sheet.
Completion of all tasks should be a top priority for all students. Our TIP letters are designed to help students to do that.
MERITORIOUS ACHIEVEMENT
In an effort to recognize students who exhibit above-average effort, attitude, dedication and involvement in school life, a MERIT POINT system is in effect.
In recognition of special deeds, students may collect signatures from administrators and teachers on the pages provided in this agenda. These signatures may be redeemed periodically for Merit Awards.
HOW TO OBTAIN MERIT POINTS
A. HONOUR ROLL
10 points - 80% - 84% 15 points - 85% & over
Points must be claimed by student.
B. EFFORT
All teachers select the name of one student in each of their classes whom they feel has put in the most effort to succeed, regardless of academic standing
5 POINTS per mention to a maximum of 15 POINTS per student per term.
Points must be claimed by student.
C. 5 POINTS CLUB
Any student who is able to raise his/her overall best average (as indicated on each report) by at least 5 points will receive a number of Merit Points equivalent to the amount of increase. These will be awarded only after the 2nd and 3rd reports and must be claimed by the student.
D. EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
Merit Points are available for involvement in organized events, outside of the class schedule, such as intramural sports, clubs, associations, committees, Student Council, and special projects.
In general, participation in any of the above will result in from 1 to 4 Merit Points, depending upon degree of participation and effort. In a leadership role, a student may receive up to 10 Merit Points, at the discretion of the signatory.
Special Projects include events where a student represents the school (Science Fair, Athletic Teams, selected Spring Journal and Commonwealth Essay entries, etc.) and certain large scale projects (Yearbook, Drama Production, etc.). These may result in up to 15 Merit Points each, depending upon degree of involvement, time, and effort.
Merit Points (up to 4 Points) may also be obtained for a variety of other recognized deeds and actions which demonstrate generosity, honesty, responsibility, leadership, cooperation, helpfulness, and respect for others, above and beyond normal expectations, and without being asked to do so.
