PLACES TO GO - A LAURENTIAN CEMIS NEWSLETTER

November 8, 1999

This small newsletter, meant to replace constant mail-outs, is provided as a service to the teachers of the Sir Wilfrid Laurier School Board and others in order to assist their travels along the Internet.

The mailings at this time are somewhat erratic, coming roughly every three to four weeks. This should change in the future.

Should you not want to receive this message, please reply to this message, entering "REMOVE - PLACES TO GO" in the subject area. If you have received this message from a friend and wish to subscribe to this service, please send an e-mail to the above address with "SUBSCRIBE - PLACES TO GO" in the subject area.

LAURENTIAN CEMIS NEWS

NEW DOCUMENTATION ON CEMIS WEB SITE!

For those of you who have found many useful web sites disappear on the 'Net, you'll find a new Power Point presentation on saving entire web sites to your server or local hard drive in the Documentation section of the Laurentian CEMIS site (http://cemis.swlauriersb.qc.ca) .

FOREVER INTERNET - A NEW LAURENTIAN CEMIS PROJECT

The Laurentian CEMIS is in the process of compiling educationally compelling sites to be mounted and distributed on CD-ROM. Should you have any sites you have found classroom-useful sites, please forward the URLs (addresses) to Peter Bilodeau (bilodeap@citenet.net).

COREL SOUND ACTIVATED SOFTWARE OFFER

Within the next few days, your administrator will receive a package from the Corel Corporation. Apart from the wide selection of software offered, I believe that you may find the most interesting part of this offer to be the voice-actuated software (bundled with headset) which may be used in a wide variety of pedagogical applications.

ALL THE WRITE TYPE CD RETURN

Thanks to all the schools who have returned the All the Write Type evaluation CD, for those of you who haven't please do so within the next week.

SCHOOLNET-AQUOPS INITIATIVE

SchoolNet is currently looking for schools wishing to participate in their funded Grass Roots initiative. If you have a project in mind, please consult the following web site: http://aquops.educ.infinit.net/source/gr/index.htm . Of course, the Laurentian CEMIS would be more than happy to provide any assistance needed.

BEST PRACTICES MATERIAL REQUESTED

With the advent of the new reforms, curriculum integration of the new technologies has taken on new importance. QESN Connections is interested in publishing your "Best Practices" on the web. If you have any material which you have found to be effective in the integration of the new technologies to the curriculum, please contact the Connections crew at connection@qesn.meq.gouv.qc.ca .
