An administrative decree (1039-2020) was issued October 7, 2020, by the Government of Québec :

  • The election for the Chair of the Sir Wilfrid Laurier School Board has been suspended.
  • The Board of Revisors for the whole territory as been suspended.
  • Vote by mail is now canceled.

VOTERS

Are you registered on the permanent English Electoral List?

To be able to exercise your right to vote in the November 1, 2020 school elections, you must be registered on the SWLSB list of electors. The deadline in this regard is October 13 at 10 pm.

All voters must therefore be on the SWLSB electoral list AND also meet the following criteria on polling day:

  • Be 18 years of age or over;
  • Be domiciled on the territory of the School Board and have been domiciled in Quebec for at least six months;
  • Not to be under curatorship;
  • Not be deprived of their election right;

In the case of an elector who has no children in a public school, you may ask for your name to be added to our electoral list. Please ensure you return the original form to Helen Finn, Returning Officer at elections@swlauriersb.qc.ca at 235, montée Lesage, Rosemère, J7A 4Y6, before October 13, 10pm.

VOTE BY MAIL

Decree 2020-066 and Regulation Respecting Voting by Mail

You may be eligible to vote by mail if:

You are registered on the electoral list; and

  • You live in a residential and long-term care facility governed by the Act respecting health services and social services (CHSLD) or a private seniors' residence;
    OR
  • You are a person:

    (1) returning from a trip abroad less than 14 days earlier;
    (2) who has received a COVID-19 diagnosis and is still considered to be a carrier of the disease;
    (3) showing COVID-19 symptoms;
    (4) having been in contact with a suspected, probable or confirmed COVID-19 case less than 14 days earlier;
    (5) waiting for the results of a COVID-19 screening test;

If you are eligible and wish to avail yourself of the vote by mail, please make a request to the Returning Officer as soon as possible after October 5, 2020, and before October 22, 2020 at 4:30pm:

Voting ballot(s) will be sent with a return envelope and instructions to each eligible voter who requested to vote by mail.

Completed ballots must be received at the Election Office before 4:30pm on October 30, 2020.

ÉLECTIONS QUÉBEC

Élections Québec website for additional information

A judgment was rendered on September 17, 2020 regarding Bill 40 maintaining the injunction, and hearings will now be held in Superior court on the merits. No dates have been confirmed.
The elections are set to be held on November 1st, 2020, based on the previous governance model. For SWLSB, 9 commissioners and 1 Chair will be elected on November 1st.
