Philosophy/Mission: Laurentian Regional High
School is dedicated in its desire to provide a positive and
cooperative learning environment that promotes tolerance,
self-esteem, respect for others and a strong sense of community.
Students are encouraged to work and achieve to their full potential
in both the academic and extra-curricular realms.
Laurentian Regional High School's history can be
traced back to 1968 when the Government created polyvalent high
schools. This concept provided both academic and vocational
profiles, with a variety of course options and a vibrant
extra-curricular program. Nestled in the foothills of the
Laurentians, the school is home to approximately 800 students. Many
of our graduates continue their post secondary studies in college,
universities, and technical schools.
Parent Participation at Laurentian Regional High
School is a vital component of the communication we
endeavour to establish with the home. Whether it be the Governing
Board ( includes 9 parents) which meets 8-9 times a year or the
Parent Participation Organization, parents are very active and
committed to the school's growth and improvement. Parents volunteer
in the school and actively fund-raise for student activities.
Programs: Laurentian Regional High School offers
a wide range of programs to serve our diverse community of learners.
In addition to the basic courses required for CEGEP entry, an
enriched curriculum is provided in Math and French. An impressive
array of options is also offered in the Arts and Sciences to
complement our core subjects. We also provide for our Special Needs
students with a range of support including remedial and resource
classes. Our APL Program (16+ work study) is designed to provide
students with the necessary skills to be successful in the workplace
and at the same time meet their needs in the core areas. The Junior
APL Program (15+) incorporates core subjects and those of a manual
and technical nature to enable students to develop skills in
different areas.
Events and Activities: Laurentian Regional High
School's academic and extra-curricular calendar is complete.
Activities include Welcome Week, dances and Winterfest. Halloween,
Remembrance Day and Christmas are special at Laurentian Regional
High School. The band concert and drama productions are a must see
along with sports teams for all seasons. Soccer, basketball, hockey,
football, swimming and rugby are well-represented by our male and
female athletes. The Terry Fox Run is an annual event, as is the
Christmas Breakfast and Food Drive. The Grad Buffet opens the Grad
