Science &
Technology (SCI100 – 555100)
This is a compulsory science course for all Secondary I
students. Topics in the areas of Astronomy, Biology,
Chemistry, Geology, and Physics will be studied.
Science & Technology (SCI208 – 555208)
This is a compulsory course for all Secondary II
students. This course has four modules covering topics on
Solutions, Topics in the areas of Astronomy, Biology, Chemistry,
Geology, and Physics will be studied.
Biology (BIO314 – 535314)
This is a compulsory course for all Secondary III students.
The course is compromised of three Biology modules: Nutrition,
Interacting with the External Environment, and Reproduction.
It enables students to acquire specific knowledge about Human Health
and Biology. It also enables students to develop lifestyle
attitudes on the basis of sound scientific knowledge. In addition,
an introductory technology module is designed to prepare students
for Level 4 Science.
Physical Science (SCI486 -556486)
This is a compulsory course where the prerequisites are the
successful completion of Secondary III Math and enrolled in Math
416. It is a regular path Physical Science course for those
Secondary IV students who need a Secondary IV Science credit but do
not intend to continue in science related courses with prerequisites
in physics and chemistry. This course is presented in three
modules; Properties and Structure, Electrical Phenomena and Ionic
Phenomena. It focuses on the inquiry approach and students
learn by solving problems and conducting experiments. Please
note: Science 416 is a CEGEP entry prerequisite.
Physical Science – Enriched (SCI430 – 556486 +
556430)
Prerequisites - Pass in MEN314 or above average performance in
MAT314 and BIO314.
This is an enriched path for students who intend to take
Secondary V Physics, Chemistry and/or Biology courses.
Prerequisites for this course are successful completion of Secondary
III Math and Biology and enrolled in Math 436. Students cover
the three modules on Structure, Electricity and Magnetism, and Ionic
Phenomenon in greater depth. Mathematical computation and
interpretation are involved, as well as problem solving and
conducting experiments. OPTIONS (Secondary IV and
V)
Biology (BIO534 – 535534)
Prerequisite: 75% in Biology 314
Topics covered include the organization of life at the cellular,
organism and population levels. Emphasis is placed on genetic
inheritance, energy exchange and mechanisms of evolution and
adaptation. An independent research project is a required
component of this course. The reading content is high and some
of the population modelling concepts require a firm understanding of
Algebra and relations.
Chemistry (CHE584 – 551584)
Prerequisites - Minimum 70% in Science 436 & enrolled in Math
536
An optional course for Secondary V students who are enrolled in
MAT536 and have successfully completed Physical Science 430 and who
plan to continue their studies at the CEGEP level in Health Sciences
or Pure and Applied Sciences. Topics covered in this course
are Gases and their Applications, Energy in Chemical Reactions,
Rates of Chemical Reactions and Equilibrium in Chemical
Reactions. There is also a research project and at least half
of the objectives of this program are attained through laboratory
work.
Physics (PHY584 – 554584)
Prerequisites – Minimum 70% in Science 436 & enrolled in Math
536
Intended for Secondary V students who have successfully completed
Physical Science 436 and completed or enrolled in Math 536 and who
plan to continue their studies at the CEGEP level in Health
Sciences, Pure and Applied Sciences or Science related Vocational
education. The course covers topics on The Nature of Light,
Optical Devices, and Mechanics.
