EXTRA-CURRICULAR SPORTS
LRHS is committed to providing ample opportunity for
students to participate in a wide range of extra-curricular
activities. Students are encouraged to "get involved" and take
advantage of these opportunities. If you wish to try out for an
athletic team, see your Physical Education teacher and ask for a
medical form to be completed by your doctor.
The following is a list of extra-curricular sports
that are being or have been offered to students during the 2006-
2007 school year.
Football: LRHS experienced a
revival with regards to its football programme during the Fall of
2006. Students in Secondary I and II (Benjamin), Secondary II
and III (Cadet), and Secondary IV and V (Juvenile) participated in
the rebuilding phase of all of our teams.
Rain or shine, players practiced and scrimmaged hard to
develop the skills and plays needed with the intent of entering a league for
next season. Our number one goal was to, above all, have fun.
Although there is still more work to be done, we hope to have an even
greater interest for the 2007-2008 season to help with the continued
rebuilding of our programme. The future of the LRHS Bears depends on
the commitment of our players. Coach: Mr. T. Kat.
Junior Girls Basketball:
Congratulations to the Junior Girls Basketball Team for the
excellent season! Players showed dedication and great
sportsmanship from the very first practice in late October.
Their efforts paid off on the court in January when they won three
of their four games and finished second in their pool at the
St-Pierre Tournament in St-Jerome. They continued to be
successful at exhibition games against St-Agathe Academy and
Polyvalente St-Jerome in February and March. Special
thanks to Patricia Gardner who assisted the team during practices
early in the season. Coach: Miss M. Demers.
Junior Soccer: Practices took
place in the months of September through October. Players had
the wonderful opportunity to participate at the very first Junior
Co-ed Soccer Tournament at Laurentian Regional High School on
October 25th. Teams from across the Sir Wilfrid Laurier School
Board participated in this friendly tournament. Many teams and
players had their day of glory on this wonderful day.
Congratulations to the "Northern Jewels" of Laurentian Regional High
School for their great performance, to the senior students and
teachers who made this event happen, and to all the teams who
participated in this unique and fun event. We look
forward to the next season! Coaches: Miss. M. Demers,
Mrs. G. Cragg, and Mrs. I. Plante.
Senior Soccer: Season:
September to October. Open to Secondary III to V
students. There are usually 8 – 10 games + playoffs.
Coach: Mr. J. Wilson.
Senior Boys Basketball: We had
a formative season. We were placed in a Double A Division, and
all things considered, we feel we did a good job. We’re
looking forward to next year. Special thanks to assistant
coaches Mario Seguin, Peter Dery, and Isabelle Plante.
Coach: Sheldon Segal
Senior Boys Hockey: The LRHS
hockey team meets once a week on Tuesdays for practice. Although the
team only pulled together for one victory this season, we still
managed to always have fun. The team would like to thank our coach,
Mr. Mawdryk, for all of his great fundraising and being able to
organize a trip to the Maritimes. It should be a memorable
experience. On behalf of the senior players who will be leaving at
the end of this season, we would like to wish the team good luck in
the years to come. Coach: Mr. A. Mawdryk.
Senior Girls Basketball: The
senior girls’ basketball team met for practice twice a week.
The girls were full of spirit from the get go and that never
dwindled. We won some, lost some, and enjoyed many very close
games filled with exciting moments. We ended the season with
new friendships and great memories. Coach: R.
Hughes.
It is the responsibility of the student who has missed
class time in order to participate in an extra-curricular activity
to find out what work was missed and to complete all work and
assignments which have been given. Students who are irresponsible
about their school work may be denied permission by the teacher
concerned to be absent from that teacher's class in order to
participate in an extra-curricular activity.
Students participating in extra-curricular activities
are to conduct themselves in the same manner expected of students
during school hours and in classes. They are subject to the same
rules and regulations as at any other time in school.
