The Breaking Down the Building

After a pow-wow and a melee of calculators, rulers, and drills, the building team took upon themselves the ultimate challenge of building a robot capable of collecting balls and throwing them into troughs. This arduous task was overseen by Mr. Rodriguez, who was responsible for helping our team of power tool-armed crusaders on their duty, and also was the authority figure in charge of settling any injury suits.

The robot, christened ‘RICKY ’, was made with the inspiration of a metallic tray manipulated vertically by the use of a scissor lift. The crew recycled materials from the previous year’s competing robot, who had retired a few months ago and had begun collecting dust to pass the time. They extended the size of the base by adding six additional inches to the tray, whose responsibility was to scoop up as many manically fleeing balls from the floor. A small hole in the back centre of the tray would trap the ball, and when the scissor lift rises and a small motor tilts the tray, it would come rolling into its appropriate place. Additional fixtures such as wheels and a mandatory wireless control system were added with painstaking amounts of blood, sweat, and baby’s tears.

Despite civil disputes between team members and eventual treaties signed to organize a schedule to see who would get to use the power saw, our magnificent building team was able to birth ‘RICKY ’. Now, malnourished from the constant need of up keeping and nurturing the young robot, the building team is finally confident in letting the independent but inexperienced ‘RICKY ’ out into the competition lands. However, while you see young ‘RICKY ’ on the game fields, off in the distance lies the watchful eye of the Building team, not quite able to let their precious offspring go.
