Rosemère, November 30, 2023 – The Council of Commissioners of the Sir Wilfrid Laurier School Board (SWLSB), is very pleased to announce the appointment of Russell Copeman as Director General effective January 15, 2024. Mr. Copeman’s nomination was confirmed by a unanimous decision of the Council of Commissioners during the Special Council meeting held on November 29, 2023.
Mr. Copeman brings a wealth of educational experience having served as the Executive Director of the Quebec English School Boards Association (QESBA) over the last five years and as an Assistant Professor (Professional) at the Max Bell School of Public Policy. He also served as a Senior Administrator at Concordia University as Associate Vice-President, External Relations where he was also an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Political Science. He formerly served as the borough mayor for Côte-des-Neiges/Notre-Dame-de-Grâce and as a Member of the National Assembly for Notre-Dame-de-Grâce.
“We have complete confidence that Mr. Copeman’s leadership and expertise will greatly benefit our students, our employees, and our communities helping the SWLSB moving forward. His understanding of our needs and challenges align with our vision as we embark upon the implementation of the 2023-2027 Commitment-to-Success Plan,” said Paolo Galati, Chairperson.
“The Council extends its deepest appreciation to Mr. Frédéric Greschner for taking on the role of interim Director General in August following the departure of former Director General, Gaëlle Absolonne,” concluded Mr. Galati.
With a workforce of more than 2,000 employees, the Sir Wilfrid Laurier School Board is the third-largest English school board in Québec and boasts a graduation rate of 88.3%. Its territory comprises the administrative regions of Laval, Laurentides and Lanaudière. The school board provides preschool, elementary, secondary, adult education and, vocational training services to over 14,000 students in 35 schools and 4 centres. It also offers business training services.
