Emergency Closures

The Suspension of Classes and/or Emergency Closure of Establishment(s) During Unusual and Unpredictable Circumstances or Inclement Weather policy stipulates three different closures in the event of inclement weather conditions: 

1. Cancellation of transportation 
2. Suspension of classes 
3. Temporary closure of establishment (To be used in unpredictable circumstances not necessarily related to inclement weather.) (Examples: loss of power, natural disaster, strikes, etc.) 

During inclement weather, decisions to close a school are usually made before 6 a.m. Once the decision is made to cancel transportation, suspend classes or conduct a temporary closure of establishment, we immediately:

• Email and SMS: Parents, guardians, and employees receive an email and SMS notification via COMMUNICATE.
• Website: List of schools/centres affected on the SWLSB homepage. 
• Social Media: Update SWLSB Facebook page. 
• Phone Line: The names of affected schools are listed on the administrative centre’s phone line at 450 621-5600 or 1 866-621-5600.
• Media: Local radio and television networks are notified.
