Yesterday, we paused to remember and honour the lives forever changed by the devastating earthquake that struck Haiti on January 12, 2010. This tragic event claimed hundreds of thousands of lives, left many injured, and displaced countless families. The impact of this disaster continues to resonate deeply within communities across the world, including here in Canada.

At the Sir Wilfrid Laurier School Board, we stand in solidarity with the Haitian community, many of whom are integral members of our schools and community.

As we mark this solemn anniversary, we encourage everyone in our school community to reflect on the values of compassion, empathy, and mutual support. Let us continue to educate our students about global citizenship, the importance of cultural understanding, and the role each of us can play in supporting those in need, whether near or far.

Together, let us honor the memory of those who were lost by fostering a spirit of unity and hope. Our thoughts are with the survivors and their families, as well as with all those who work tirelessly to rebuild and strengthen Haiti.
