PUBLIC NOTICE is hereby given to the electors of the Sir Wilfrid Laurier School Board by Gaëlle Absolonne, returning officer, that:

1. The following position is open for nominations: Chairperson.

2. Nomination papers for this position must be filed at the office of Linda Di Domenico, assistant authorized to receive nomination papers on the following days and times, on appointment only:

  • Wednesday, August 18, from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Friday, August 20, from 9 a.m. to noon
  • Sunday, August 22, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

3. If two or more candidates are nominated for the same position,

  • A poll will be held on September 26, 2021 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., and
  • An advance poll will be held on September 19, 2021 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

4. An elector who does not have a child admitted to the educational services of our school board or the French school service centre serving his/her domicile may choose to exercise or revoke their right to vote at our school board. This choice is made by sending a notice in writing to Susan O’Keeffe, assistant to the returning officer from August 13 to September 7, 2021, at 10 p.m.

Exceptional measures related to the current health situation
(Voting by mail – COVID-19)

6. Under Ministerial Order 2020-091, voting by mail replaces mobile polling for electors domiciled in a CHSLD or a private residence for seniors identified in the register established under the Act respecting health services and social services.

7. Under Ministerial Order 2020-091, persons considered to be in isolation must vote by mail.
Individuals considered to be in isolation are as follows:

  • Individuals returning from a trip abroad in the last 14 days;
  • Individuals who have been diagnosed with COVID-19 and are still considered carriers of the disease;
  • Individuals with symptoms of COVID-19;
  • Individuals who have been in contact with a suspected, probable or confirmed case of COVID-19 within the last 14 days;
  •  Individuals waiting for a COVID-19 test result.

8. To vote by mail, eligible electors must make a verbal or written request to the returning officer no later than September 16, 2021.

9. Ballot papers will be mailed beginning on August 30, 2021.

10. Electors registered to vote by mail who have not received their ballot papers may contact the returning officer to obtain new ballots, beginning on September 16, 2021, on the following days and hours

  • Friday, September 17, 2021, from 9 a.m. to noon.
  • Monday September 20 to Thursday September 23, 2021 from 9 a.m. to noon and from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

11. Postal ballots must be received in the office of the returning officer no later than September 24, 2021, at 4:30 p.m.
