The Council of Commissioners of the Sir Wilfrid Laurier School Board (SWLSB) is pleased to announce the appointment of Selena Mell as the new Assistant Director General, effective August 12, 2024. Ms. Mell’s nomination was confirmed by a unanimous decision of the Council of Commissioners during the special Council meeting held on June 5, 2024.

Ms. Mell brings a wealth of educational experience and a proven track record in leadership within the educational sector. She holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Education with a certification in Special Education from Mount Allison University in New Brunswick, as well as a Master of Education in Teaching from Gonzaga University in Washington; she is also currently enrolled in a Doctorate program in Education at William Howard Taft University. Ms. Mell has held a number of senior administrative and leadership positions both in Canada and internationally, most recently as Director General of Education at the Provincial Francophone School District of Newfoundland and Labrador. Ms. Mell is a native Quebecer and graduate of Laurentian Regional High School in Lachute.

With a workforce of more than 2,000 employees, the Sir Wilfrid Laurier School Board is the third-largest English school board in Québec and boasts a graduation rate of 88.3%. Its territory comprises the administrative regions of Laval, Laurentides and Lanaudière. The school board provides preschool, elementary, secondary, adult education, and vocational training services to over 14,000 students in 35 schools and 4 centres. It also offers business training services.
