Rosemère, March 23, 2023 – The Sir Wilfrid Laurier School Board is thrilled to announce that it has received authorization from the Ministry of Education (MEQ) for the funding of its new elementary school in Saint-Lin-Laurentides. At its special Council of Commissioners meeting held last night, a contractor was engaged for this $27 million construction project. A ground-breaking event will take place in the coming weeks.

The new elementary school will be located on 9e avenue in Saint-Lin-Laurentides and will have 16 modern classrooms with adjacent collaboration rooms, 2 sensory rooms, a double gymnasium, a library/multi-purpose room, daycare services as well as a beautiful playground. The school will have a capacity of 384 students and it is scheduled to open in September 2024.

“We are excited to build this much-needed new elementary school for the Lanaudière and Laurentides communities. Our school board is growing in student population in the lower Laurentides and Lanaudière regions so this school will allow us to address the overcrowding situation in five elementary schools. This project has been a long time in the making and we are pleased that the funding was authorized by the MEQ. This school will provide state-of-the-art facilities for our students and staff. We look forward to welcoming the first cohort of students in September 2024.” said Chairperson Paolo Galati.

The Council of Commissioners thanked everyone involved in supporting this important project and for their hard work in bringing it to fruition. The feedback received from the public consultation on zoning for this new school, which ended on March 17, is under review and the results will be posted on our website in the coming weeks.
